Why I love Wistia

I have been a big fan of Wistia’s video hosting software for a few years now.  It’s clean interface, ease of use, and simple workflows can only be trumped by their amazing customer service.

Case in point – today I went into my account to make some changes, and saw the new Playlists feature, which lets you run multiple videos in one single player.  I wanted to check it out (and add it to the corporate video page on my website) and was prompted to upgrade, which I did without realizing I’d just gone from the $39/month plan I am grandfathered in on to the $79/month plan.

I emailed Adam, one of the co-founders, and received a response back in a couple of minutes, letting me know he bumped me back down to the old plan AND gave me Playlists for free.

I’ve been a loyal customer, but a very small one at that – $39/month.  But because of their quick response times and recognition of the small part I’ve played in their business, they make me feel like a VIP.

I’ll be a Wisita customer for a long time, and recommend you check them out.  Oh, and by the way, here’s the playlist feature in action:

How to Produce Video for YouTube

So you wanna get a YouTube channel for your business and add some great video content, but not sure where to start? Here are some things to consider:

YouTube videos need not be highly produced, Hollywood style production quality.  Some of the best and most popular videos on YouTube were produced for a few hundred dollars.  With a decent camera and a lot of creativity, you can create winning videos for your business affordably.

What seems to work best with YouTube is a big wow factor.  Consider that thousands of videos are uploaded everyday all over the world, what will make yours stand out?  Is there something unique or compelling about your business that you can take to the extreme on film?

I know an entrepreneur who makes his own bar-b-q sauce.  His idea was to blow up a bar-b-q on camera and turn it into a YouTube video.  You’ve seen the Blendtec videos?  Same idea, affordably produced, big idea videos.

Another important key — volume.  One or two videos isn’t going to cut it.  Take your theme and make 10, 20, 50 videos that dance around the same idea.  Or try a few different themes and see which one audiences respond best to.  Then, recreate that idea over and over again.

Remember, YouTube is a totally free marketing tool, save for the production expenses.  If you can’t do it yourself, there are plenty of great creative marketing firms for small businesses that are willing to help.

Good luck!
